Rooted in Local. Built for the Future.

Our model is self-funded, community-focused, and built to serve those who care about quality, story, and impact. Every decision we make is guided by our core values: to create transformative products through intentional practices, foster a regenerative future, and deliver enduring quality our partners can stand behind.

Founded in 2023, Storm Trees is a Minnesota-based hardwood company reimagining what sustainability looks like in the built environment.

When a century-old tree fell in a storm, it exposed a simple truth: fallen urban trees aren’t waste—they’re worth.

A perfect storm of tree disease, urban development, and an oversaturated mulch market has created both a problem and an opportunity. Municipalities and private companies face unprecedented costs in managing downed trees—while the appetite grows among forestry professionals to think differently about what’s possible.

Storm Trees was founded to bridge that gap. We reclaim downed trees and give them new life as high-quality building materials. But this is just the beginning of the story. Wood is nature’s carbon vault, and every board foot we produce is measured, species by species, for the carbon it continues to store. That data is reported back to our partners—municipalities, tribal organizations, and private companies—so their sustainability goals can be met alongside ours.

Our goal is not simply to build a successful company, but to build an industry born from what was once classified as waste. We are reimaging what’s possible when purpose and profit work together. What others discard, we transform into lasting products. And in doing so, we change the way people see value itself.

Our Ethos

At the heart of our work is a guiding principle: don’t squander opportunity—use it to do good for people and the planet.

That’s why every decision we make is rooted in four ideals:

  • Transformation — turning waste into worth.

  • Intentionality — operating with transparency and care.

  • Regeneration — restoring carbon balance, local jobs, and long-term impact.

  • Endurance — building materials and relationships to last.

  • Andy McLean

    FOUNDER

Andy has always been a visionary—someone who sees what’s possible and inspires others to believe in it. After building a senior healthcare system from the ground up, he carried forward lessons learned from the Greatest Generation: chase your dream, and do good for people and for the planet. That ethos drives Storm Trees every day.

  • Patrick Hughley

    FOUNDER

Patrick is a connector. With a master’s degree in Global Affairs (NYU) and more than a decade in the energy sector, he’s known for moving ambitious projects from big idea to delivered outcome—while building trust at every step. At Storm Trees, he brings strategy, discipline and relationship-driven leadership that turns vision into impact.

Our process

Unlike a  lumber broker, we manage every step of the process—from tree to table.

  • Sourcing

Partner with local municipalities and tree services

  • Milling

Our in-house sawmill processes each log with care

  • Drying

Kiln-dried for stability, strength, and longevity

  • Crafting

Premium lumber and slabs ready for transformation

  • Delivery

Local fulfillment with minimal carbon impact

  • Reporting

Every board foot comes with carbon storage data and documented tree origin

We trace each piece of wood back to its source—by species, neighborhood, and partner. That means our clients know exactly where their materials come from and how they were processed. True supply chain transparency, from forest to finish. Every step is done with intention, resulting in enduring products with a purpose.

  • Every board we mill is more than material. It’s a promise: that sustainability and craftsmanship can coexist, that communities can benefit from what once was discarded, and that even a fallen tree can leave a lasting legacy.

High-quality hardwood. Reclaimed with integrity. Built to endure.

“Storm Trees has been a vital partner in our Urban Wood Project.

Their work in diverting wood from the waste stream and integrating it into the supply chain is exactly what’s needed to build a more sustainable future. We fully support their mission and efforts to increase kiln capacity, which will allow even more wood to be repurposed into durable, high-quality furniture."
